Win J. Browning, born October 20, 1933 in Halifax County (Roanoke Rapids, NC) died January 29th at the age of 91.

He was a graduate of William R Davie High School and Armstrong (UGA). Prior to joining the Air Force, he worked in construction carpentry and auto service/repair. He was in the Army National Guard and a Korean war veteran. He served at three bases in Texas, Hunter Air Force Base, North Africa, the Azores, Limestone Maine, and Thule Air Base in Greenland. After discharge from the Air Force, he married Shirley Haupt, the love of his life. They were married for over 60 years until she passed away in 2019. In his professional career, he worked for Bill Kehoe and Stephens tire companies before founding Win Browning Tire Company with his wife Shirley. After running the tire company for many years, he went on to work at Gulfstream Aerospace as the service center business office manager. After retiring from Gulfstream, he worked for the Vaden auto dealerships doing dealer trades and at the auto auction. His final retirement was to become his wife’s care giver. He was a member of the Savannah Jaycees, governor of Savannah Moose Lodge 1550 for two terms, Savannah Lions Club, Rincon Lions Club, president and founder of Rincon Athletic Association, and the assistant Rincon Fire Chief. He never met a stranger and always had a story and joke to share.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, two sisters and his wife. He is survived by two sons, Windy H Browning (Tammy), W. Brad Browning (Kim), daughter Kim Frizzell, seven grandchildren – Summer Love, Brandon Love (Brandi), Justin Miller, W. Brad Browning Jr, Tamara Bailey (Matt), Blaine Browning (Haley), Kassi McGowan (Nathan), nine great grandchildren one great-great granddaughter, his longtime dear friend Dudley New and his incredible care giver Martine St Leger.

He loved the Georgia Bulldawgs, NASCAR and even raced at Oglethorpe Speedway in the late 1950s. He was a member of The Crossroad Baptist Church.

The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 3, 2025 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
