William L. "Bill" Strickland

November 29, 1940 — July 6, 2022

William L. "Bill" Strickland, 81, of Garden City, GA passed away Wednesday July, 6, 2022 at St. Joseph's Hospital, due to complications from a stroke he suffered 11 months ago.

Bill was a 1958 graduate of Screven County High School. After graduating high school Bill moved to Savannah and started working for National Gypsum. While working there, Bill and a coworker opened up a Gulf Station on West Broad and Bay Street. A few years later he moved to Dean Forest Rd and I-16 and opened Strickland's Gulf and Radiator Services. Several years after that he separated the businesses and built a new location for his Radiator business. In 1976, he was one of the top 10 Gulf Dealers in the US. In 1977, he was the first business to open at the interchange of I-95 and GA 21, which he said would end up being one of the busiest intersections in Georgia. After owning this station for 10 years, he sold it to British Petroleum. After selling his business he helped his brothers in the Timber Industry and helped his nephew start an electrical company. Bill was a past President of Georgia Association of Petroleum Retailers (GAPR) and past member of the Garden City's Jaycees. Bill mentored Prisoners in a State Work release program, for many years the men would stop to visit and tell him how his work ethics, faith and friendship changed their lives.

He loved watching the Western Channel and all James Bond movies. He visited the James Bond Museum and enjoyed a Bond immersion adventure in London. He enjoyed traveling with his Wife and Daughter. They visited 47 of the 50 States in the US and took several trips to Europe and Cruises. He was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church. Bill loved his faith in God, family gatherings, and never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Hugh and Myrtle Strickland; his Precious Little Angel, Cindy Nicole Strickland; brother, Louis M. Strickland, and his special beloved Siamese Bobtail Cat, Lily.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Hamilton Strickland; daughter, Kimberly P. Strickland (Elwin Smith); siblings, Emily Nelson (Tommy) of Savannah, GA, Jeannette Kersey of Phoenix City, AL, Sanford Strickland of Sylvania, GA, and Martha Beasley of Savannah, Ga; and a special nephew, Scott Seymour of Garden City, GA.
