William Roger Stanley, age 78, of Savannah passed away Sunday September 22, 2024 at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital.
William (Bill) was born on May 3, 1946 in Spartanburg, SC. He was the son of the late Frances and William Stanley. While spending most of his childhood in Danville, VA, William enlisted for the United States Air Force at the age of 17. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. He then went on to earn a Masters degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University. He would then use that degree to help fellow veterans through the VA hospital system. During retirement, William enjoyed boating, cigars, family, the local south side optimist club and helping coordinate the backpack buddies program for Gasden Elementary School through Trinity United Methodist Church.
William was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 43 years, Frances Blakely Stanley. He is survived by his son William Stanley (Emily); his sister, Francine Haymes of Richmond, VA; Oliver (Catman) as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a memorial service at 2:00pm Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 235 W President St. Savannah, GA 31401, officiated by Rev. Ben Gosden and Rev. Sam Watkins.
