Services for William Donald Westall, 87, of Charlotte North Carolina will be held at 11am Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park. The graveside service will be officiated by his brother-in-law's Ronald, Launey and Charles Hiers.
Mr. Westall passed away at home on Saturday, January 23rdin the early hours. He was born October 15, 1928 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
He fondly shared memories of his early childhood days in the family's log cabin. The family relocated to Savannah, Georgia where he spent his adolescent youth before joining the Navy. He was a proud World War II veteran and often spoke of his time on the seas and traveling the world. After returning from the War to Savannah, he met and married his wife Joyce Bell Hiers who preceded him in death. He began a career in construction and developed a gift for building and design. A shift in careers landed Mr. Westall a position with Westinghouse. As an employee and trained engineer, he served as a valuable employee designing and constructing turbines for nuclear power plants used across the world. This position enabled him to travel the world. He was always generous in sharing the knowledge of new cultures he experienced during thosetravels. Mr. Westall was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by three sons, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He will be missed as well by many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday at the Fairhaven Funeral Home in Garden City.
