William Judson Cowart III, age 72, of Savannah, Georgia passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024. He was comforted by family throughout his final day.
Billy was born to the parents of Carolyn Devereaux Cowart and William Judson Cowart II. He attended Windsor Forest High School and graduated in 1972. After graduation, Billy joined the United States Army and served on active duty with assignments in Korea, Germany, and Kentucky. He would later reenlist in the national guard while concurrently working as a fleet manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Savannah, GA. Upon his completion of service to the national guard, he was honorably discharged. He would continue to work with the Corp until his retirement in 2012, amassing nearly 40 years of federal government service.
Billy found comfort in crabbing, hunting, and fishing on Forest River, an area that he spent a lot of time in as a child. He enjoyed watching movies and science fiction. Billy was a loyal member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Nowell Cowart; his three children, William Judson Cowart IV, Jennifer Lynn Cowart, Keith Lamar Barker; four grandchildren, Ethan Thomas Leonard, Isabella Rose Jackson, Layla Marie Jackson, Betty Abigail Barker; his parents, William Judson Cowart II, Carolyn Devereaux Cowart, two brothers, Richard (Lois) Cowart, Danny (Darcia) Cowart; and two sisters, Judy DiNatale, and Sherri (Hillary) Dickson.
A graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 315 Greenwich Road, Savannah, Georgia 31404.
