William Charles “Billy” Powell, Sr., age 89, of Savannah passed away Friday, October 14, 2022.
Mr. Powell was born on January 10, 1933 in Lumber City, GA, the son of the late Herschel and Annie Bell Powell. He was a veteran of the Georgia National Guard where he retired as a Sergeant First Class. His career also included working in construction, home furnishings, car sales, and time spent at Union Camp. He was a longtime member of DeLesseps Avenue Baptist Church, Zerubbabel Lodge #15, F. & A.M., The Chatham Artillery, and The Savannah Volunteer Guard. Billy enjoyed eating and spending time with his family.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Quishenbery; and his siblings, Wayne Powell, Margaret Cleo Mincey, and David Powell. He is survived by his children, William Charles Powell, Jr. (Patricia), Donna Marie Griffin (Raymond), Teddy Lee Powell (Linda), William Lester Powell (Regina), and Donna Lynn Grizzard; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
The funeral service and Masonic Rites will take place at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel.
A private burial will follow at Sharpe Cemetery near Cedar Crossing, GA.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
