William “Billy” Curtis Jones, 83, of Savannah, Ga passed away March 27, 2022 at Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 12, 1938 to the late Katie Gertrude Marchant Jones and Virgil Michael Jones, Sr. in Savannah, Ga. He was the middle son of seven. He attended Commercial High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After the Marine Corps he worked for Sears & Roebuck Co. for several years before starting Jones Painting Company.
Billy was a member of the Masonic Lodge #452 of Savannah and the Local Painters Union of Savannah. He was the owner of Jones Painting Company for more than fifty years and worked alongside his brothers painting many churches in Savannah, perhaps most notably The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist. People often said Billy painted half of Savannah. He was passionate about the work that he achieved over the years and valued the relationships that were formed in the course of his work. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church before joining Burkhalter Baptist Church.
In his younger days he was an avid fisherman and hunter. Billy was always up for an adventure and loved being with his grandsons. He celebrated his 79th birthday by going skydiving with his grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Virgil Jr., Bobby, Charles, Jackie, Freddie and Larry Jones and his loving dog, Buddy.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Frances Peavy Jones; daughters, Kathy Jones (Marcia McManus) and Beth Thomas (Mitchell); grandchildren, Logan (Caroline), Ryan, and Austin (Baylee) Thomas and his fur babies, Sophie and Twerp.
A funeral service will be held Friday, April 1, 2022 at noon in the chapel of Baker McCullough Funeral Home 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive with Rev. Charlie Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family requests that those who attend wear bright colors. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
