William Allen Jennings [1941-2017]

W. Allen Jennings passed away March 10th surrounded by his family and closest friends, Dr. and Mrs. Jim Routon, after struggling with Alzheimer's for over 7 years.

Allen was born in Fairburn, Georgia to the late Agnes Lee and Lawrence Jennings. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1959 where he excelled in academics and sports. He attended Newberry College on a football scholarship and later Stetson University in Deland, Florida.

He discovered Savannah while traveling as a pharmaceutical representative for Rexall Drugs. He later joined the custom brokerage house of D.J. Powers working for Ernest Carter, his former father in law. Allen later formed his own logistics company, The Jennings Company, which he grew into 5 offices.
After selling The Jennings Company, Allen and his son Jeff purchased The Downtown Athletic Club and Vanilla Day Spa where they were well known, respected and loved by all their members.

Upon retirement, Allen's full time job was "Poppy" to his three granddaughters, Devan and her younger twin sisters Hayley and Hayden. Over those years as "Poppy's" greatest joy was carpooling, shopping and spending time with his three special girls. He also enjoyed visits from his grandson, Taylor Allen Jennings.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Virginia (Ginger) Streiff Jennings, son, Jeffrey Allen Jennings (Christina), grandson Taylor Allen Jennings, granddaughters Devan, Hayley and Hayden Jennings, sister Faye Jennings Sellers and sisters in law, Beverly Streiff Carson and Ann H. Streiff. Allen also had many nieces and nephews.

Honoring Allen's wishes there will be no visitation and the memorial will be private.

The family request that remembrances be made in Allen's name to the Ronald McDonald House, 4710 Waters Avenue, Savannah, Georgia 31404.
