Whitt Elmo Short, Jr., 75 of Savannah, Georgia died September 8th, 2021 in the comfort of his home.
Elmo was the son of Whitt Elmo Short, Sr. and Bessie Fountain Short. Elmo was born in Savannah and lived his whole life there. He was a graduate of Savannah High School, Class of ‘64 and was a pitcher on their baseball team. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and member of The Knights of Columbus. He was a long-time employee of the Savannah Morning News. In his spare time, he liked to lift weights and work on cars. He loved being the center of attention, telling jokes and trying to make people laugh. Everyone knew him for his “short” temper, but he was still loved by many.
He is survived by his sister, Sarah Short Heyman, two daughters, Jennifer Short and Christi Short Kelly, son Scott Short and granddaughter, Jessica Kelly Ragland. Additionally, he is survived by wife of 19 years, Marilee May Short, son-in-law, Tim Kelly and daughter-in-law, Ellen Short. His family will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 17, 2021 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel with burial following at Bonaventure Cemetery.
