Walter Myers Cox, Iii

Walter Myers Cox III, age 78, passed away Monday, September 11, 2023.
Walter was born May 4, 1945 in Savannah, Georgia to the parents of Frances Rockwell Cox and Walter Myers Cox II. When asked about his birthday, he took great pride in telling others he was a “star wars” baby.
Wally attended Savannah High School and was part of the Class of 1963. He went on to graduate from the University of Miami with a bachelor's degree in microbiology. In 1969, he received his masters degree from the University of Georgia. Later that year, Wally entered the United States Navy where he served as a bacteriologist in Bethesda, Maryland for three years. He then received a PhD in microbiology from University of Georgia. Then went to work for LabCorp as a microbiologist, in Durham, North Carolina. Wally retired in 2007 and moved to Tybee Island.
Wally is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by several cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2023 at Beaufort National Cemetery 1601 Boundary St, Beaufort, SC 29902.
