Virginia Bradley

d. March 26, 2017

Virginia (Ginny) Davis Bradley, passed away on March 24, 2017. She was born June 20, 1925 in Clairton, Pennsylvania. She led a colorful life over 91 years as an amateur actress and ice skater, avid horseback rider and tennis player, world traveler and antique collector. She was strong in her convictions. Her love of family and faith were ever present. She brought her "gift of gab" and interests together in her roles as tour guides for Owens Thomas House, Telfair Museum and Mickve Israel. She was devoted to Congregation Mickve Israel and served in the Sisterhood for many years.

After growing up in Clairton, PA, Ginny (born Virginia May Holshouser) graduated high school in 1943 and attended Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh. In 1945, she moved to Savannah to help her sister Jo, whose husband left to work overseas on European reconstruction efforts after WWII. She spent her remaining years in Savannah, getting married, having children and becoming very involved in the community. Early on she became active in Savannah Little Theater and took up horseback riding while pursuing a career as an office manager and book keeper. She married Edwin Bradley in 1954, a fellow horse enthusiast. They had three children, Gay, Angela (Angie) and Philip. During this time, Ginny managed her husband's gun shop. In her free time, she enjoyed tennis. Through the years, Ginny amassed a wonderful collection of antique furniture and interesting collectibles. She enjoyed the hunt for antiques and the history they contained.

Ginny later worked at the Savannah Visitors Center. She served as a docent at Owens Thomas House, Telfair Museum and Ships of the Sea Museums and Mickve Israel. She loved telling new visitors about Savannah's long and rich history. Ginny was very active in Congregation Mickve Israel's Sisterhood, in which she was a member 21 years. She served as their Sisterhood president 7 times during her service. In 2002, she was honored to receive the Woman of Valor Lifetime Commitment Award from Congregation Mickve Israel Sisterhood.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Daveed, Skye and Ayden. And covered her refrigerator and any frame she could find with their pictures. She enjoyed her new friends and life at The Commons where she moved in 2013. In 2016 she became a great grandmother with the birth of Naia Eda Aranda.

We'll remember her spunk and spirit, her eye for fashion and the arts, and her "luv luvs."

She is survived by daughters, Gay Bradley and Angela Bradley Aranda Lingle (Chip); son, Philip Bradley (Jodi); three grandchildren, Daveed Aranda, Skye and Ayden Bradley; and one great-grandchild Naia Eda Aranda.
