Verdean P. Brannen

d. October 4, 2018

Verdean P. Brannen, 78, passed away peacefully October 2 under the care of Hospice Savannah after a short illness.  A Glennville native, she was a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper for a number of businesses, retiring in 1998 as the financial secretary for Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church.  She was a longtime member of South Gardens Baptist Church, where she taught in the children's department for over 30 years.  She also taught the senior women at Silk Hope Baptist Church for a time, and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church at her passing.  She was heavily involved in the lives and activities of her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed gospel music concerts with her husband.  She was a voracious reader of historical novels, and she was known for her crocheted blankets and washcloths.  Her handiwork was shared with the homeless, around the world in Operation Christmas Child boxes, and with any number of newborn babies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Lowell Brannen; her parents, Charles Laban and Thelma Purcell, and her brother, Talmadge Purcell.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Alan L. Brannen (Carol) and Donnie C. Brannen (Heidi); her grandchildren, Andrew Brannen, Elizabeth Horne (Caleb) and Christopher Brannen; her great-grandchildren, Connor and Titan Horne; her brothers, Richard Purcell (Beverly) and Charles Hillis Purcell; a number of nieces and nephews, and her long-time best friend, Margie Hatcher.

Visitation:  Friday, October 5 from 5-7 at Baker-McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA.  Funeral:  11 A.M. Saturday, October 6 at the funeral home, with Dr. Donnie C. Brannen and Rev. Caleb Horne officiating.  Interment:  3 P.M. Saturday at Beard's Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Glennville, GA.
