Vera Lynette Daly

November 15, 1936 — September 21, 2023

Vera Lynette Alderman Daly, age 86, entered eternal peace Thursday, September 21,2023 with her family by her side.

Vera was born November 15, 1936 to the parents of Lela Mae Underwood and James Daniel “J.D.” Alderman in Homerville, Georgia. She attended Richard Arnold High School. At seventeen years old, God aligned her with the love of her life. While visiting a friend in the hospital her life forever changed. Michael Daly just happened to be her friend's roommate. He politely told her she had a run in her stockings. Ms. Vera being the witty woman she was, snapped back with, “Why are you looking at my legs”. His pickup line must have worked because three months later they were married. Together, they had seven amazing children and opened their home to so many others that they welcomed as their own. Everyone that entered the Daly Home felt an incredible amount of unconditional love and acceptance. Vera loved her family and others with every ounce of her soul.

As a mother, she was very active in the school's PTA and girl scout troop meetings, Vera helped out with the disabled bowling league, and was an advocate for disabled children. Above all, Vera was devoted to the Blessed Mother, a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for over 50 years, she volunteered in the children's nursery at church, volunteered for hourly adoration during the midnight hour with her husband at the cathedral, and volunteered for hourly adoration during the week at St. James. Vera was a prayer warrior. Once you were placed on her list, not a day went by that she did not pray for you. She would carry the weight of the world on her shoulders for anyone that asked her to.

Vera was the kind of selfless that only exists in saints. Vera was humble and refused to take credit for anything. She lived her life by the words, “God’s will be done.”

Vera meets at heavens gates, her husband of 67 years, Michael Francis Daly; her daughter, Mary Daly Smith; her beloved grandson, Justin Paul Smith; two brothers, Reverend Gene Alderman, Stevie Alderman, and her parents.

Her legacy lives on in her six children, David Daly, Susan Daye, Robert Daly, Joyce Daly, Nancy Daly, Jenny Lane (Clark); five grandchildren, Jason James Smith, Christopher “Chris” Daye (Olivia), Ryan Daye, Joey Daye (Khadijah), Zachary Daye; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian Littlejohn (Billy), and Barbara “Bobbie” Bazemore; and multiple nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving friends 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia, 31406.
