Dean Cannon Nov 7, 1928 to Nov 8, 2022
Mrs. Uldine (Dean) Cannon passed away peacefully at 94 years old in her sleep and went home to meet her Lord. Dean was born in Newington, Georgia, she was raised on the family farm and was the youngest child of the late Claude and Sadie Hodges.
As a child, Dean would accompany her daddy to the big farmer’s market in Savannah, and fell in love with the big city! She moved to Savannah where she met and married John E. Cannon on January 21,1961. Dean worked hard her whole life; she started as an old-time telephone operator and stayed working at Savannah Morning News for 40 years, her last position was in advertising sales.
Dean’s true calling was serving at Bible Baptist Church. She was a faithful and loyal member for 50 years. She was in charge of preparing weekly church dinners for decades. More recently she was the leader of the women in the Master’s class where she nurtured the love of her church in others, and was a role model for many. Dean was revered in her church and is remembered as a beautiful, kind, loving, and forgiving Christian woman.
Dean thoroughly enjoyed playing cards weekly with ladies from the church. She was a wonderful lady to all who knew her and a delightful person to everyone she met. Dean is survived by her son Steven Cannon and Donna, grandson Paul Cannon and Kristin, (great grandchildren Ella, John, and Colt) and grandson Kevin Cannon and Eduardo, along with many loving nieces and nephews . Dean was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John E Cannon, her siblings: Tillman Hodges, Clayton Hodges, Ollie Mae Thornton, Quentin Hodges, Claude Hodges, Jr, and Harry Tell Hodges.
The family will be receiving friends Friday, November 18, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406 and Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church, 4700 Skidaway Road, Savannah, Georgia 31404.
A funeral service will take place at Bible Baptist Church 12:00 p.m. after visitation Saturday, November 19, 2022.
A burial will take place after the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 315 Greenwich Road, Savannah, Georgia 31404.
