TYBEE ISLAND - Timothy (Timmy) Lee Turner, age 58, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, June 2nd at his residence. A native of Savannah, Timmy was the son of the late Elizabeth Lane Turner Bumgarner of Savannah and the late Harold William Turner, Sr. of Moultrie, Ga. He was also preceded in death by his brother H. William (Billy) Turner, Jr., and a beloved companion Angie Dawn Sherlin.
Timmy's life experiences were varied and centered around his family, a diverse work history, and most especially his love for the sports of fishing and boating. As an infant, his life began with a move to Panama, where his parents were missionaries to the Guaymi Indians, an indigenous tribe living in the interior mountainous area of that Central American country. His life ended in the place he dearly loved, a place where he could watch the sun rise and the ships pass as they entered the Ocean Channel of the Savannah River. He was blessed in that he could enjoy these experiences, all through the large windows or from the deck of his north beach townhome. He was able to enjoy a recent fishing trip to Alaska with his special nephew Aaron Tompkins (where he was the first in the fishing party to catch a Halibut), a vacation in Aruba, and a trip to the Florida keys .He also loved the Atlanta professional sports teams and the Georgia Bulldogs. Timmy adored his fur buddy Bentley, his best friend and constant companion.
Timmy is survived by his two daughters, Amy Turner Meyer and Ashley Turner, his grandson Jordan Meyer of Marietta, GA, his nephew Aaron Tompkins and his wife Sarah Linscott Tompkins, his beloved niece Farrell Lane O'Donnell Turner of Meridian, MS, his aunts Judy Harrelson and Joyce Oglesby of Statesboro and Mary Redding of Pooler, his half-brother Terry Turner of Moultrie, GA, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members and friends. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and those he called "friends".
A Visitation will be Saturday, June 8th at 10:00, with an informal Memorial to follow at 11:00, at the Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel.
