Thomas Edward Newsome, Sr., age 92, of Savannah passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021 at home.
Mr. Newsome was born on January 17, 1929 in Savannah, the son of the late Frankie Mae and Rufus F. Newsome, Sr. He was a graduate of the Georgia Military Academy. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. Following his military tenure he began his career in sales working with Hester Motor Co. He later bought the dealership and successfully operated Newsome GMC until retiring and serving as a consultant with Dan Vaden Chevrolet. He was a longtime member and Past Potentate of Alee Shrine and was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. He attended St. John’s Church.
Mr. Newsome is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Julia Powell Newsome; children, Julie Newsom Nacci (Brian), Thomas Edward “Tom” Newsome, Jr., and Nancy Newsome Opper (John); grandchildren, Adam (Jennifer), Eric, and Alexandra (Casey); and great-grandchild, Noah. He was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Tyson.
The family will be receiving friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Friday, September 10, 2021 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel with burial following at Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
