Thelma Jackson Chavis, 91, of Guyton, GA passed away peacefully at the Effingham County Extended Care Facility on Monday, September 12, 2016 with her family at her bedside.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Bazil V. Chavis; her daughter, Barbara Jane "Cookie" Jackson, parents, Newton Willie Jackson and Rossie Chavis Jackson; her siblings, Mae Getty, Alma Young, Harvey Jackson, Thurman Jackson, NL Jackson, Myrtle Lee Callahan and Mary Harbeson.
Mrs. Chavis was born and raised in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. She was an active member of the Savannah Holy Church of God where she had taught Sunday School and was active in the Ladies Missionary Group.
She is survived by her children, Mary Ann Herron (Loyd) of Aiken, SC, Margaret Chavis of Guyton, GA, Stephen Chavis (Lois) of Casselberry, FL, Terry Chavis of Guyton, GA; brother, David Jackson of Orangeburg, SC; son-in-law, Glenn Jackson of Aiken, SC; 10 grandchildren, many great and great great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the Savannah Holy Church of God on Little Neck Road.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Savannah Holy Church of God with Rev. Ryan Ralston officiating.
Burial will take place at 4:00 p.m. at the Beaver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Neese, SC.
