Suzanne Jarrell Willis, age 88, of Savannah, GA and widow of William R. Willis, Sr. passed away Friday, March 3, 2023 after a short illness.
Mrs. Willis was born on December 15, 1934 in Savannah, GA, the daughter of the late Charles LaDesse Jarrell, Sr. and Hattie Mae Groff Jarrell. She was a graduate of Savannah High School and continued her formal education at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. While living in Florida, she was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Clewiston where she was a Sunday School teacher and church pianist. In Savannah she was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple, Chatham Parkway Baptist Church, and First Free Will Baptist Church. She was a member of the Gideons Auxiliary and served as a volunteer with The Pink Ladies. She hosted many parties for the sugar refinery with her husband, William as he was Vice President of Environmental Operations. Suzanne enjoyed genealogy, scrapbooking, sewing, building puzzles, and listening to gospel music. She was an avid reader and had a fantastic home library. She was the epitome of a gentle southern woman and was known for her cooking and sense of humor. She loved spending time with her family, vacationing in Fort Myers, FL. She had the remarkable gift of discernment.
Mrs. Willis was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, William R. Willis, Sr.; and her brothers, Charles L. Jarrell, Jr., Robert Walter Jarrell, and William Sydney Jarrell. She is survived by her children, Carol Denise Rich (Bill), William Ray Willis, Jr. (Patricia), Janet W. Williams, Paula Suzanne Willis, and Angela Terri Powers (Mike); grandchildren, Will Rich (Alex), Amanda Jones, Kyle Rich, Lauren Hermann (Kyle), Landon Phillips (Kirstin), Christian Phillips (Melissa), Micajah Williams (Casey), Ryan Willis (Haley Clayton), and Ashley Knight; 14 great grandchildren; and several nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Greenwich Cemetery.
