Susie Amerson Bunger, 96, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2017 at Azalealand Nursing Home.
Susie was born February 26, 1921 in Graymont Summit, Georiga. She lived most of her life in Savannah. While raising her three boys she was a substitute teacher at Fell Avenue School and she was a Girl Scout leader. She worked for Strachan Shipping Company and retired after 27 years.
She was a member of Savannah Progressive Primitive Baptist Church (formally Savannah Primitive Baptist Church) in Savannah for 62 years. She was a member of the choir, the Emma Cowart/Sadie Crow Circle and played the piano.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, O.H. (Hubert) Amerson, Sr., her second husband, John T. Bunger, two sons, O.H. (Billy) Amerson, Jr., Donald Amerson, her granddaughter, Terri Amerson Lank (Keith) and daughter-in-law Shirley Gant.
Surviving are her son, Roger M. Amerson (DiAnne), daughters-in-law, Judy Amerson and Jan Amerson, her grandchildren, Mark, Angie, Steve and Newman Amerson, great grandchildren, Tyler and Colin Amerson and Jacob and Lizze Lank, several nieces and nephews. Susie is also survived by John Bunger's daughter, Gloria Black and grandson, Johnny Gant (Michelle) and their four children.
She loved all of her family very much and said so often.
We give thanks to her niece, Connie Riner for her loving help and support. Susie always said that Connie was the daughter she never had. Also, special thanks to the wonderful staff of Azalealand Nursing Home for their excellent care and help of our mother and the rest of the visiting family. Hugs were always abundant.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 10 am to 11 am at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Garden City Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11 am in the funeral home Chapel. Burial will be a Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park - East.
