Stuart Granville Abel, Jr. 91, of Savannah, died Monday, October 3, 2016 at Candler Hospital after a short illness.
He was born on July 28, 1925 in Hellertown, PA, the son of the late Dr. Stuart Granville Abel and Hazel Pearson Abel.
Stuart served his country as a Coxswain in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from Kaiser Chemical in Port Wentworth after 30 plus years of service. Stuart and a friend, Tim Ryan, built quality homes under the name of Abel and Ryan Construction Company around Chatham County for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Tapley Abel. They enjoyed each other dearly; going camping and traveling to visit friends and family.
Stuart was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, the American Legion Post 184 and Thunderbolt Senior Citizens Group which met on weekdays. They enjoyed lunch and various activities together.
Survivors include his children; Jay K. Abel (Mauguerite) of St. Augustine, Fl, Daniel L. Abel of Savannah and Holly Abel Ray (Carlton) of Savannah; 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-granddaughter.

A memorial and visitation will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 18 at First Free Will Baptist Church, 210 Skidaway Road, Savannah. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park-West.
