Stephen Wiley "Corky" Corcoran of Savannah, died on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
A native of Savannah, he was born November 3rd, 1951 to Joseph A. Corcoran, Jr. and Dorothy Long Corcoran. As a 1969 graduate of Savannah's H.V. Jenkins High School, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in both Business Administration and Finance from Armstrong State College (Savannah) in 1974. From there, he went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration degree from Georgia Southern College (Statesboro) in 1976. Steve was proud to serve his country for twenty six years with the United States Coast Guard Reserve, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer. He served as both a Port Operation Officer and as Unit Administrative Officer, earning the Humanitarian Service Award and the Special Operations Service Award. As a civilian, he was employed as a staff appraiser with the Chatham County Board of Assessors, where he worked from March 1978 though April 2018, responsible for estimating the value of Industrial and Commercial real estate.
Mr. Corcoran's many community activities and affiliations include being a Parishioner at The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist (where he served as an Usher and Eucharistic Minister), the Legion of Mary at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Candler Hospital Wellness Center, and a Board Member of his Neighborhood Homeowners Association at The Shadows.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia "Jenna" Simmons Corcoran; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia & Bruce Pharis and Linda & Eugene Von Waldner; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive Savannah, GA 31406) with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist (222 E. Harris Street Savannah, GA 31401).
Interment will follow in the Catholic Cemetery (1720 Wheaton Street).
