Stanley Israel Bond, Jr., age 91, of Savannah passed away Monday, January 13, 2025 with his wife by his side.
Mr. Bond, a native of Savannah was born on November 22, 1933, the son of the late Stanley Israel Bond, Sr. and Leila Shuman Bond. He was a 1953 graduate of Savannah High School. After high school he served with the United States Marine Corps Reserve, later serving active duty until he was honorably discharged. He began his career working with Western Auto while subsequently driving with the ambulance service. He later worked with McLane Trucking and ultimately retired from Yellow Trucking after many years of service. He was a longtime member of Bull Street Baptist Church, later attended Southside Baptist Church and had been a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church for the last five years. He enjoyed watching football and was a fan of the University of Alabama – ROLL TIDE!
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bond was preceded in death by his sons, Stanley Israel Bond, III and William Arthur Bond. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Bessie Annette Bond; son, Christopher Mark Bond (Marcia); daughter, Sandra Diane Bond; daughter-in-law, Melissa Rhodes Bond; grandchildren, Stanley Israel “Sonny” Bond, IV (Amie), Christopher Mark Bond, Jr. (Megan), Caroline Bond Johnson (Landon), Ashley Bond Enoch (Ed), and Sarah Gwendolyn Bond; and 8 great-grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 20, 2025 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel with burial following at Greenwich Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Higher Ground Baptist Church, 9120 Whitefield Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406.
