Sheila Anne Huggins

June 11, 1942 — March 30, 2021

Sheila U. Huggins, 78, of Garden City and Rincon, GA passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of her wonderful Caregivers and Compassus Hospice of Savannah.

Sheila was born June 11, 1942 in Savannah, GA. She was a graduate of Commercial Groves High School. She met the love of her life, Walter R. “Ronnie” Huggins, at an early age at the Garden City United Methodist Church. They married young and remained an incredible testament to love, kindness and commitment through 63 years of marriage. Together, they started a construction business, Huggins Construction Company. They quickly became a distinguished and beloved residential homebuilder throughout the coastal empire and low country of Hilton Head Island, SC. Sheila specialized in teaching children with disabilities and served as a teacher at Groves High School and Port Wentworth Elementary. Later in life, Sheila was a co-founder of The Learning Tree House Daycare. She had a tremendous passion for children and helping others. Her favorite hobbies included cooking, baking and time spent with family and friends. After retiring, Sheila and Ronnie relocated to Navarre Beach, FL. and in 2017 they returned to Rincon, GA to be closer to family and friends. Driven by her love for her family, and supported by her Caregivers, Sheila fought hard to overcome multiple illnesses. Heaven has gained a true servant. Although we will all miss her greatly, we take comfort in knowing that she will be reunited with the love of her life, Ronnie, and with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. “Ronnie” Huggins; parents, L.J. Usher and Mamie Powell Usher; brother, Lonza James “Jimmy” Usher III; in-laws Jessie Taylor Huggins and Walter Anderson Huggins; and brother-in-law, Richard J. Huggins.

She is survived by a daughter, Ronda Huggins; two sons, Walter (DeNorah) Huggins and Lee (Liz) Huggins; two granddaughters, Natalie Huggins (Caleb) Childers and Elizabeth Huggins (Glynn-Patten) Helmly; two grandsons, Evan (Erin) Huggins and Garrison Huggins; great granddaughter Patten Elizabeth Helmly; and niece Jackie Huggins Owens (Jeff) and their daughter, Victoria Owens.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to all of her Caregivers. You all are true family to us.
