On Christmas morning, three days after her 97th birthday, Sarah G. Herman departed this earth for the arms of Jesus.

Sarah was born on December 22, 1927, in Baxley, GA, to James Mitchell and Gertrude Clark Goolsby. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Janie VonBergen, and brother James Clark Goolsby. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lester R. Herman, Jr.,to whom she was married for 55 years. Sarah is survived by her son James R. Herman, M.D. and his wife Sheila of Columbia, SC; daughter Sandra H. Jones and her husband Stuart of Allen, TX; grandchildren Allan Herman and his wife Merranda, Laura and Emily Herman, Rachel and Halle Jones; great grandchildren Juliet Michels, Dawson, Brooks, Adaleigh, and Aubrey Herman; and niece Linda VonBergen.

Sarah began her career as an executive secretary but stopped in 1964 after the birth of her 2nd child and dedicated many years to being a devoted wife and mother. She later returned to work and her final position was with the Homebuilders Association of Savannah. Sarah was a faithful member of First Assembly of God until her health prohibited regular attendance.

Visitation will be held 1:00 pm Monday, December 30, 2024 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406). Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm on December 30, 2024 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Hodgson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mark Minter officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Sarah’s friend and caretaker Angel Bennett for the love and care shown to Sarah over the last several years.
