Sarah Ann Henderson died of natural causes on September 15, 2022 at the age of 90.
Sarah was born in Fruitdale, Alabama on July 21, 1932. She graduated from Fruitdale High School on May 19, 1950. She then proceeded to study nursing at the School of Nursing in Mobile, Alabama where she graduated in September of 1953. Sarah enlisted in the Air Force in 1963 where she served as a nurse at Hunter Air Force Base, Georgia, until her Honorable Discharge in 1966. Sarah then enlisted in the Georgia Air National Guard, what is now the 165th Airlift Wing, where she served as an officer in the 165th Medical Group from 1967 to 1992. She retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. She later joined the Georgia State Defense Force in 2000 where she was active for a number of years. Sarah was a devoted fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team and rooted for them every year. Sarah Henderson was a proud veteran and was happy to serve her country for over 29 years.
Sarah Henderson was the last surviving member of her family. She is preceded in death by her father, P. A. Henderson, her mother, Lottie Clague Henderson, and her sister, Doris C. Henderson.
She leaves behind friends who will miss her and remember her fondly.
A memorial visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2022 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 U.S. Highway 301, Glennville, GA 30427.
