Sarah Ann Jones Lanier, age 70, of Savannah passed away Monday, June 13, 2022 at home with her family by her side.
Sarah was born on May 10, 1952 in Savannah, the daughter of the late Sarah and Edwin W. Jones, Jr. She was a 1970 graduate of Savannah High School and continued her formal education at Valdosta State University where she was a 1974 Magna Cum Laude graduate. While at Valdosta State she was a founding charter member and President of Zeta Tau Alpha. She completed her graduate studies at the Medical College of Georgia where she was a 1976 Magna Cum Laude graduate, earning a Master of Science in Nursing. At a young age she was inspired by her beloved aunt, Elizabeth Kelly, to become a nurse. She began her career in nursing with the VA Hospital, later in home health with the Georgia Department of Health, Memorial Medical Center working in drug research, and lastly with Hospice Savannah where she retired after 20 years of service. She was a member of Skidaway Community Church. She was a gifted quilter and needleworker, using her talents to help benefit Quilts of Valor. She also loved and had a passion for animals.
Sarah was preceded in death by her son, Brian Thomas Lanier. She married Tom Lanier in 1972 and is also survived by her daughter, Shari Marie Kuhns and husband Jeffery; grandson, Griffin Edwin Kuhns; and her beloved pet, Chive.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2022 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
