Ruth Gillis Ricks, age 87, of Savannah passed away Saturday, May 13th, 2017 at Spanish Oaks Hospice.

Born in Statesboro, Georgia, she was the daughter of John Wedrell Gillis, Sr. and Pearl Coleman Gillis.

A graduate of Metter High School, Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing and retired from St. Josephs Hospital in nursing administration. She was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church and was a member of the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses, a past president of the Garden Club Council of Chatham County and a member of the the Orchid Society and Rose Society. Her loves were nursing, her family and she was an avid gardener. Ruth was a wonderful lady. She was cherished by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Floyd Coleman and Coleman and Coleman Gillis, three sisters, Bonnie Hodges, Betty Blackburn and Sue Vandine.

Survivors include, her husband of 65 years, Henry Clifton Ricks, her son, Henry Clifton "Cliff" Ricks III, a brother John Wedrell Gillis (Edna) of Savannah, her cousins, Tonya Renee Vandine of Savannah, Elaine Antonelli of San Diego, California, Steven Gillis of Savannah, Jeffrey Gillis of Savannah, Linda Ricks of Savannah, Carol Brightbill of Birmingham, Alabama, Susan Cole Sheehan of Tupelo, Mississippi, Jackie Vandine, Patti Shannon and her best friend and sister, Peggy Chambers Cole.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, May 16th, 2017 at Baker-McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 17th, 2017 at 11:00 am in Baker-McCullough Funeral Home - Hubert C. Baker Chapel, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
