Ronald Reese “Ron” Formby, age 86, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 after a long illness.
Mr. Formby was born on March 4, 1935 in Rome, GA, the son of the late Robert Reese and Lucy Mae Pullen Formby. He worked with Lockheed Martin in Marietta, GA as a Structural Mechanic before moving to Savannah where he began his career as the Service Manager with Backus Cadillac-Pontiac. He was later the owner of Mr. Transmission for many years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple for 54 years where he served as a greeter, usher, and was a member of the Chapel Bible Sunday School Class. He also served as the Chairman of the Calvary Day School Committee for several years. He was raised in Frank F. Baker Lodge #46, F.&A.M. and was a 50 year Mason of Zerubbabel Lodge #15, F.&A.M. He was also a member of Alee Shrine where he was a member and Past President of the Flag Unit. Outside of work and civic involvement Ron enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and having fun with his family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling all over the country with his family and always traveled by car.
Mr. Formby was preceded in death by his son, Keith Anthony Formby. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Sybil Jean Packer Formby; daughters, Vicki Formby Griner (Bernie) and Karen Formby Ross (Philip); son, Barry Reese Formby (Carma Brown); grandchildren, Brendan Griner, Caroline Griner, Garrett Ross (Elizabeth), Jacob Ross (Susanne), Kristin Formby, Reese Formby, and Casey Overmoyer; and great-grandchildren, Chyler, Stella, Lainey, and Emery.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 23, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Temple. The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at the church.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Masonic Rites.
