Ronald W. Kent,age 92, passed away at Durham-Hensley Nursing Home in Chuckney, TN. on April 16, 2023.
He was born in Baltimore, MD. October 5, 1930 and had been a resident in Savannah since August 2000. He attended Georgia Tech 1950-1952, served in the U.S. Army Infantry May 1952-1954, then University of Georgia 1954-1958 where he met his wife Joan and married in First Methodist Church in Athens, GA. His life was largely devoted to serving others, having worked in casualty insurance for 15 years. In 1973 he founded and directed Big Brothers of Greater Birmingham, AL. Then in 1978 he began a 22 year career in charitable gift planning for the Salvation Army, Texas Chiropractic college , Rice University, Ohio University and Texas A&M Foundation.
In Savannah he was a board member of Urban Hope and the Coastal Jazz Society. He enjoyed membership in the association of Fund Raising Professionals, the Council on World Affairs, Georgia Historical Society , The Folk Music Society, and the Coastal Heritage Society. Ron was an avid collector of BMW’S and classic cars and a member of the Antique Auto Club of America. Also he was licensed race track Steward for the Sports Car Club of America and taught driver safety programs for AARP. He enjoyed four different sailboats and was the Cruising Station Host in Savannah for Seven Seas Cruising Assn. Choral singing spoke to him and he sang in several church choirs over 25 years plus participated in the Stephen Ministry.
Survivors include his son, Paul C. Kent II and his wife Wei and and daughter ,Ronne of Seattle, WA.; a daughter, Allie K. Peet and husband Lindsay of Greeneville, TN; and a sister, Virginia Jackson of Pasadena, MD.
A private family graveside service will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Greenwich Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Ben Martin officiating.
