Ronald "Ron" Dowdy, age 71, of Savannah passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospital.
Mr. Dowdy was born November 27, 1951, in Dexter, Missouri, to the late Billy Joe Dowdy and Dorothea (Morrow Dowdy) Cantin. He served in the US Army during the mid 1970s, stationed primarily in Oklahoma. He was retired from General Motors in Flint, Michigan, where he spent many years of his career welding. He was also very proud of his work in the Employee Assistance Program there. After retiring to Savannah in 2008, he later worked at TBVR on Tybee Island for several years, which he greatly enjoyed. Mr. Dowdy was an avid fisherman, and won many trophies and awards for his participation in bass fishing tournaments in Michigan.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Jan Dowdy; mother, Dorothea Cantin; daughters, Eva Vandepol and Leatha Halstead; sons and daughters-in-law, Jason & Vanessa Dowdy and C. Lathan & Tammy Mann; brother, Keith Dowdy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie & Paul Henderson, Sandy Vranich, and Kathy & Gordon Trombley; five grandchildren Jessica, Allyssa, Jonathon, Cassidy, and Sofia, and four great-grandchildren Andie, Silas, Greyson, and Izzy.
A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406).
