Roger Allan Baker, 81, passed away May 29, 2018 peacefully at home surrounded by his family in Savannah, Ga.
Born April 21, 1937 in Melrose, MA to Carleton and Elizabeth (Wilson) Baker. He grew up and lived in Melrose, MA until 1998 when he and his wife moved to Savannah, Ga.
Mr. Baker served in the United States Coast Guard from Nov. 29, 1955 till Nov. 25, 1959. He was in the Reserves until April 5, 1963.
In 1965 Mr. Baker worked as a Reserved Firefighter until Feb. 19, 1969 when he was appointed a Permanent Firefighter and worked on the Melrose, MA Fire Department. He retired July 1994 from a job that he truly loved, and it was so much a part of who he was.
Mr. Baker was a very giving person. He was always there to help when it was needed. His family will always remember his loving, caring nature and sense of humor. Mr. Baker loved to talk to anyone that would listen, and he never met a stranger.
Mr. Baker's greatest love was his wife of 60 years followed by his four children. He always thought of his Family's future in everything he did. Mr. Baker was a hard-working husband and father who always made time for his family whether to teach, mentor, love, laugh, or go fishing. Roger took time to be with his family.
Roger Baker will leave behind his wife of 60 years Joyce (Pate) Baker; his 4 children, Allan Baker (Lea), Donna Baker (Herman "Doug" Wardlaw Jr.), Wendy Baker (Richard Barber), Linda Baker (Pieter Kloosterman Jr.); 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, a brother Bruce Baker and a sister Irene Baker Gillespie. There are many brother and sister in laws, nephews and nieces that will miss him dearly.
The family of Roger Baker would like to give a special thank you to Hospice Savannah for the loving care given to their father.
There will be a small graveside service June 4th at 11 am at Hillcrest Abbey West 1336 Dean Forest Rd. Garden City, Ga 31405.
