Robert T. Tully passed Sunday, May 26, 2019 surrounded by family. Born July 26, 1933 to Vivien Virginia (Funk) and George Tully in Los Angeles, CA. Raised by his mother who worked most of her adult life for the US Government which allowed the family to live in Anchorage, Alaska, Maui, Hawaii, Fort Ord and Sausalito, California. He Attended High School at Mount Tamalpais, Mill Valley California.
At age 17 during his senior year in high school his mother passed and he went to live with family in Los Angeles. In 1951 he joined the Navy serving 4 years at the rank of Bosons Mate on transport ships moving troops between San Francisco and Okinawa, Japan during the Koren Conflict. He was honorably discharged in July 1955.
While attending UCLA studying law enforcement Robert married and had a daughter, Janice. After graduating from UCLA with a BA in law enforcement he joined the L.A. police department and later transferred to the L.A. County Sheriff's department. He was appointed a US Deputy Marshall by then President Ronald Reagan and retired in Savannah after a total of 32 years in law enforcement.
Robert was a proud member and was active with The CrossRoad Baptist Church, the Republican Party serving as a pollster, volunteer for the American Red Cross, Chairman of the Citizen Advisory Committee of the Coastal Region Metropolitan Planning Organization and Savannah Navy League. After his retirement he worked part time at Avis/Budget for 10 years until his declining health forced him to resign.
Survived by his wife, Karin Edwards-Tully, daughter Janice Tully-Gann (Jim) of L.A. CA, step-son, Greg Powell (Jennifer) of Rincon, GA. step grandchildren Nick Powell (Tiffany) Springfield, MA, Grettchen Dudley (Seth) of Williamsburg, VA, Teahgan Beaty (Christian), Midway, GA, Libby Powell of Rincon, GA and 5 step great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held June 8th at 1:00 pm The CrossRoad Baptist Church 8510 Middleground Rd. Savannah, GA 31406, Pastor Johnny Bowen presiding.
