Robert Marshall Kutchey, Sr.

September 8, 1934 — October 28, 2023

Robert Marshall Kutchey, Sr, 89, passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2023, after a short illness. He was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, the son of the late Florence and Steven Kutchey.

After graduating from Savannah High School, Robert attended the University of Georgia and graduated magna cum laude in 1956. He was a Captain in the United States Army and served in the Air National Guard. Upon returning to Savannah, Robert worked with his parents at Auburn Cars, which he later transitioned into Kutchey Auto Supply and Chatham Automotive Warehouse, successfully supplying auto parts across the Coastal Empire for decades. In 2006, Robert sold the businesses and retired with his wife Jean.

Robert was a devoted Georgia Bulldog fan, holding season tickets for many years and faithfully attending games. A member of the Savannah Golf Club for thirty years, he was an avid golfer, who thoroughly enjoyed golfing with his family and friends as often as possible. Robert was known for being a quiet, hard-working man, with a dry sense of humor. He will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a loyal friend. Robert gave generously of his time and talents and enjoyed supporting others in pursuit of their educational and entrepreneurial dreams.

Robert is survived by his children, Lisa Simons (Alton) and Marshall Kutchey (Dawn). Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Stephen Kutchey, and his sister-in-law, Pat McElroy. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Mandy Tramell, Bobby Kutchey (Xada), Andrew Tillman, Kristen Patterson (Will), Corey Simons, Cody Simons, and five great-grandchildren, Walt, Meris, Ella, Winslet and Emory. Robert was preceded in death by his lifelong companion and the love of his life, his wife Jean. He was also preceded in death by longtime family friend and caretaker, Eva Ambrose. His family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with his bride of 65 years, to whom he remained devoted until his death.

The family wants to express our thanks and deep appreciation to Patricia Singleton, a special woman with a heart of gold who provided excellent care of our Dad and Pappy (and her buddy) these past months. She was an amazing nurse and a shoulder to lean on at a very difficult time. Patricia will always be a treasured member of our family.
