Richmond Hill, GA – Robert Gene Kaufman, 91, previously of Gastonia, NC, passed away October 24, 2024 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, GA. He was a native of LaPorte, IN, and was the son of the late Henry Fern Kaufman and Gertrude Lawrence Kaufman.
Celebration of Life Service: At First United Methodist Church, Gastonia, NC; November 9th at 2 pm
Interment of Cremains: In Rolling Prairie, IN at a later date.
Robert (Bob) was born in LaPorte, IN and he was the eighth out of nine children. At the young age of 20, Bob joined the US Army where he served proudly for two years. After his service he went to college and received a degree in mechanical engineering where he excelled. He retired from Eagle Mountain Finishing in Cramerton, NC. Above all else, he was known as a loving husband and father. He devoted his life to his wife, Nellie, of 46 years, and to his two sons, Rob and Kyle. Bob shared a love of sports, fixing up cars, and gardening with his sons. Bob was also a proud grandfather of 5 grandchildren. Bob’s motto in life was: “you gotta have a sense of humor”, and he surely lived up to that. He had a love and passion for bringing people together and making them laugh. Bob was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Gastonia, NC; faithfully serving meals every week at the Salvation Army, loved the comradery of his friends at the Blue Oval Ford Club and Carolina Superstangs, and his beloved friends at The Grill on Cox Rd. Bob has impacted and loved people very well. We are honored to have called you dad, grandpa, father-in-law, and friend for the past 91 years. Well done good and faithful servant.
Survivors: Two sons: Robert G. Kaufman II, wife Sarah and grandson, Robert G. “Trey” III, all of Durham, NC and son Kyle D. Kaufman, wife Meredith, and granddaughter, Claire A. and grandsons, Thomas M., Benjamin D. and Caleb H. Kaufman all of Richmond Hill, GA, along with many nieces and nephews.
