Robert Edward Magnus of Savannah passed away peacefully at his home on September 20, 2018 at the age of 87. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Myrtle, his wife of 52 years.
Robert enlisted in the Army during the Korean War right out of high school in 1949. During his 20 year military career he met and married Myrtle, an Army nurse, in East Africa. After a distinguished military career he earned a PhD in Guidance and counseling at Mississippi State University. He went on to a second career as a professor of Criminal Justice at Armstrong State College. He retired from Armstrong after serving for over 20 years.
He lived his life always trying to help and empower others. He set a great example for his children and those around him. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, trips to Vegas with Myrtle, growing roses, tinkering and repairing just about anything and computer technology.
He is survived by his three children- Cynthia, Bob, and John.
Cynthia Magnus Hobbs with husband Gary and daughter Kimberly Hood and her husband Chris and children Caleb and Abby live near Athens, Georgia. Robert T. Magnus with his wife Lisa and their son Bobby live in Richmond, Virginia. John E. Magnus with wife Beverly and their son John live in Savannah.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Baker McCullough Funeral Home- Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Dr. Savannah, GA 31406.
