Richard Johnson Hackney, Jr., 66, of Bloomingdale, died September 13, 2019. A longtime resident of Effingham County, he was a devoted father. He graduated from Thomasville High School in Thomasville, Georgia where he was a captain of the football team. Richard attended the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order.
Richard was employed by Consolidated Pipe in Savannah as a sales associate. He worked in the industry for many years where he came to know many close friends and associates.
He was an active member of the Alpha United Methodist Church where he had been embraced by a loving congregation. Throughout his long battle with cancer, members of the church gave selflessly of their time providing food and transportation to his many appointments.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Sarah Marie Hackney: his sisters, Mary Carol McCall (Johnny) and Marjorie Shaw of Thomasville, GA and brother, George Hackney (Juliane) of Quincy, FL; niece - Katie Hackney; nephews - Tom Shaw, Cullin Hamm, Richard Hamm, George Hackney, Jr., Martin Hackney, Joseph Hackney and William Hackney. He is predeceased by his wife, Kandi; his parents, Mary and Richard Johnson Hackney, Sr. and his brother, Carl Hackney.
A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 and followed by a memorial service on Tuesday, September 17th, at Alpha United Methodist Church, 106 US 80, Bloomingdale, GA.
