Warren "Hank" Wilson

On 13 Jan 2017 Warren "Hank" Wilson passed away at the age of 93. He was the beloved husband of Geraldine "Geri" Wilson and father of Carola Keller of Savannah,Georgia, and Seth Wilson of Southport, North Carolina. He passed away at Memorial University Medical Center following complications with pneumonia.

Hank was born in Parsons, Kansas on 8 Jan 1924 and grew up in the small town of Erie, Kansas. Following graduation from Erie High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and served our country in the European Theater Operations and Beachhead Landing in France. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and eight other medals during the World War II campaign. He served as an Infantry Platoon Leader and was wounded in combat in Germany. After months of recovery he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1945.

In 1946 he married a hometown girl, Geri. They were married for over 70 years and raised two children. He earned his Civil Engineering degree at Kansas University and began a career with the Department of Interior serving in the Bureau of Reclamation Division. A majority of his time with the Department of Interior was spent living in the Washington DC area until his retirement in 1980. Upon retirement, Geri and Hank moved to Savannah, Georgia where they devoted much of their time to the First Baptist Church of the Islands and family. One of Hanks greatest honors was being ordained as a Minister in 1998 and becoming the Adult Senior Pastor for the First Baptist Church of the Islands. He was a loving, compassionate and caring man. His strength and understanding will live on in his family.

Hank is survived by his loving wife, Geri Wilson and children Carola Keller and husband Lamar of Savannah, Seth Wilson and wife Denise of Southport, North Carolina, 4 grandchildren, Julie Weaver and husband Chris of Rougemont, North Carolina, Shannon Purvis and husband Chris of Savannah. Sarah Wilson of Los Angeles, California and Katie Wilson of Santa Monica, California, 4 great grandchildren Peyton & Keller Weaver, Reece and Landry Purvis.

There will be a funeral service on 28 Jan at 3:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of the Islands, 6613 Johnny Mercer Blvd. Savannah, GA 31410 with Pastor Brooks Cail officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
