Raymond Walter Davis, Jr., age 76, of Savannah passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at home.
Mr. Davis was born on May 8, 1945 in Warner Robins, GA, the son of the late Elsie Mae Tuten Davis and Raymond Walter Davis, Sr. He was a graduate of Herschel V. Jenkins High School and continued his formal education at Armstrong State College. He served as an electrician with the Georgia Air National Guard from 1965 – 1971 and was honorably discharged as a SSgt. He worked for over 30 years in electrical sales and later worked with the Chatham County Courthouse and the YMCA of Coastal Georgia. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, was a member and Past Worshipful Master of Landrum Lodge No. 48 F.&A.M. and the Scottish Rite Consistory – Valley of Savannah. He was an active Ham Amateur Radio operator for over six decades and was known over the radio as WA4ZXJ. He was a Past President of the Coastal Amateur Radio Society (CARS), member of the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL), member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association (QCWA), and the Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society (ARLHS).
Mr. Davis is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Diane Stuart Davis; son, Jefferson Stuart Davis of Rentz, GA; and granddaughter, Willow Ruth Davis.
The family will be receiving friends from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2021 followed by Masonic Funeral Rites at 4:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
