Randolph Wright Norris

August 8, 1942 — January 21, 2024

Randolph W. Norris (Randy) departed this world suddenly on January 21, 2024. Randy was born August 8, 1942 to Ogden Wright and Helen Elaine Norris. Randy spent his early childhood in Brooklyn New York, and the family later moved to Meldrin and Savannah, Georgia. His first job was at JC Lewis Ford before enlisting in the US Army in 1960 and from which he retired in 1984 after dedicating 24 years of service to his country. Randy obtained many honors while in the military including the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Army Occupation Medal (Berlin), National Defense Service, Combat Infantryman Badge, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and several more. Upon retirement from the Army, Randy was employed and retired from the US Post Office.

While stationed with the Army in Germany, Randy met the love of his life, Rita Meierhofer. Despite their language barrier of German and English, they managed to communicate and build a life together. Son, Steven (Ginger) was born followed by daughters Nanci Norris-Hackle (Eddy Jr) and Patty Norris Moore (Jim Griner). After 58 years together, Rita passed suddenly in 2021. In addition to his children, Randy is survived by his brother, John Norris. A brother, Jimmy, predeceased him. Randy is also survived by current spouse, Joyce Sandidge-Norris, bonus Daughters Julie Yingling, Kristie Devilbiss, grandchildren Stevie Norris Morris (Gabe), Kristen Nicole Vaughan (Jordan), Eddy Hackle III (Tracy), Brandon Wright Hackle (Charli), Joseph Graham, Jordan Cannon, Emily Tucker, Alexa Yingling, and Jackson Yingling, including special nephew Thorsten Silber (Yvonne) of Germany, and many other extended family members in Maryland and Virginia.

Randy will be remembered as not only a military hero, but more importantly he was a hero to his family, friends and community. He was an outgoing person who loved people, and could start a conversation with anyone regardless of whether they were familiar or not. He had a unique way of making people feel special and was known for his sometimes corny jokes and the enjoyment he received by seeing children smile when he would play the missing finger game. Randy was dependable and loyal and could be counted upon to extend a helping hand to anyone whether friends, neighbors or those less fortunate. Randy loved to tinker and fix things, and he had a special knack for doing so..whether it was cars, lawn mowers, weed eaters or anything that had a motor. He was a special and down-to-earth guy who will be severely missed by all the people whose lives he touched.
