Ralph Eugene Fountain passed into eternity at Memorial Medical Center on February 12, 2016 following a short illness. Born in Savannah, Georgia on August 23, 1932, Ralph was the second son of Nora Blackwelder Fountain Wall and George W (Pete) Fountain. Growing up in the White Bluff area of Chatham County, Ralph attended the public school system beginning in a one room school in the Montgomery Community and ending at Savannah High School in the Class of 1952. Ralph retired from Savannah Electric and Power Company in 1993 after 36 years with the company. Ralph was in the U S. Army servingwith the 82nd Airborne Division.
Ralph was heavilyinvolved in athletics through the years, gaining him many friends and acquaintances. His youth involved football and basketball, his adult life involved intensive softball, and golf. He was an early inductee into the Softball Hall of Fame and recently received the Mell Award from Old Timers Softball. Ralph was a member of Savannah Exchange Club, Board Member for Jenkins Boys Club, Member of Coastal Empire Fair Board, Former Member and Past President of Bacon Park Senior Blitz, Trustee Emeritus with The Greater Savannah Hall of Fame, Organizer, Member and Past President of Old Timers Softball Assoc., Member of Calvary Baptist Temple where he served on Ushers and Greeters Committee, the Troops of Lord's Retreat and one of Paul's Boys.
Ralph was predeceased by his son Gene H. Fountain, his parents and siblings Harold, Charles and George Fountain. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Carolyn Harrelson Fountain, a daughter Jill Fountain Robertson (John); and son R. Edward Fountain (Joann) and daughter in law Alison S. Fountain; grandchildren Harris (Krista) and Kameron Fountain; Savage H.(Trey) and Artley Lynah; and Kirsten (Adam) Blocker all of Savannah; Haley (Hunter) Finch and Kylee (Chris) Rogers of Charlotte, N. C.; and two Great Granddaughters Addy and Carter Fountain; and a number of nieces and nephews. Ralph cherished his family and found great happiness being with them.
Services; Visitation will be 10:30 A.M. until Noon with Memorial Service at Noon on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Temple with The Rev. Kenny L Grant. Pallbearers will be grandsons with Honorary Pallbearers,members of the Exchange Club of Savannah.
