Sis. Phylissa Octavia Hendrix transitioned on June 28, 2018. She was born April 14, 1961, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Jesse Will D. Hendrix and Mary Elizabeth Brinson Hendrix. She was the second child born to this union.
She was a member of First Thessalonians Holiness Church, where she sang soprano in the choir and coordinated the Annual Easter program. She loved the Lord and was a devoted member of her Church.
She was a graduate of Savannah High School class of 1979. She was one of the original members of the Savanah High School Gospel Chorus and was a key organizer for the 1979 class Reunion.
She attended Clark College in Atlanta, Georgia and Armstrong College (now Georgia Southern). She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Savannah State College (now Savannah State University).
She was also the Secretary of the Savannah High PTA serving 6 years.
She was retired from the Savannah Morning News after 20 years and was also employed by the Savannah Chatham County Public School System for several years as a paraprofessional. She was also employed at Embry-Riddle, the Savannah-Hunter campus.
She is survived by her daughter Jesseca Elizabeth Hendrix; sister Deborah Brinson McKinney (Patrick); her god-children Johnetta Monique Ross; Johnny Ross; Dominic Barton, Sr; and Joey Shiver; god-sisters Jeris R. Fleming; and Tracey Blackshear; aunt Mary Elizabeth Hendrix; special children Janee D. Hunter; Semetria S. Chisolm; Kiara Ivory Martin; Marteia Mack; Vassel Stephens, Jr.; Bryanna Stephens; Rowille Ross; and Harry Scott, Jr.; special friends Monique Stephens; Anna Walker; and Toni Stephens.
Special Cousins Missionary Trusan Ponder; Rev. Richard Wiggins (Tami); Adrienne Johnson-Williams; Bro. William Johnson, Jr.; Mother Deloris Johnson; and Deacon Willie Ponder.
She is also survived by a host of cousins and friends.
