Phillip Lee Dixon
January 16, 1960 – February 21, 2022
Join in the Celebration of Life of Phillip Lee Dixon. Born in Savannah in 1960, he grew up in Port Wentworth with his parents Charles Sr. ”Charlie” and Charlotte, sister Donnette and 2 brothers – Chuck & Kip. His family spent weekends at their river house on Colonels Island in Midway.
Phillip graduated from Groves High School in 1978. There he made life-long friends; and still spends golf time with his best ole’ bud Bobby Renfro. He continued his education at Savannah Technical School where he received his Certified Welder certificate. Most of all, Phillip was blessed with a son Dannon a few years later and enjoyed spending time together fishing and playing ball. One of Phillip’s proudest moments was Dannon’s graduation from Auburn University.
He later settled into a career with Colonial Oil where he worked as a Mechanic/Welder and other crafts. After 36 years with Colonial, he decided to retire to enjoy lots of fishing and golf. After a few short months and knowing he could never slow down, he returned to the workforce for nearly 8 years with the ILA, Local 2046 where he was employed at the time of his passing.
He was a member of the Frank F. Baker Masonic Lodge and Alee Shrine Pirate Unit. Phillip enjoyed golf, fishing, NASCAR and spending time on Planting Hammock (Midway) with Lona, family & friends. He always dreamed of moving to the coast to retire and recently bought the perfect retirement house. He was excited and planning a 2nd retirement in the near future. He was looking forward to his new home on Planting Hammock and spending his retirement years with his love, Lona.
Phillip is preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Waters Dixon, father Charles E. Dixon Sr. and his grandparents.
He is survived by his son Dannon Phillip Dixon, and granddaughter Bella; his loving life partner, Lona Gronefeld, her daughter Kristen Conner (Daniel) and grandson Garrison; sister Donnette Redding (John); and brothers, Charles E, “Chuck” Dixon, Jr, (Wendy) and Donald Kip Dixon; and a number of nieces and nephews who all love him very much.
He will also be mourned by his stepmother Vernie Dixon and sisters (by marriage) Joanie McLendon, Jan Ward & Jill Knight. He will be missed by extended family and crew of friends, Shriners & golf buddies.
Phillip loved the Lord, lived a fun & fulfilled life and is at peace in heaven. He will be missed by all who knew him.
