Officer Joshua T. Lewis, 32, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family after a 2 year, 10 month battle with leukemia Sunday November 7, 2021.
He was born in Waycross GA, but he resided in Port Wentworth GA at the time of his death. Joshua was employed by the Ware County Sherrifs Dept as a jailer, deputy sheriff and SRO. He moved to Port Wentworth to become a police officer for Port Wentworth Police Department and was selected as a CNT officer. While in Waycross, Joshua graduated from Ware County High School and subsequently attend Andrews College in Cuthbert Georgia.
Josh beat leukemia 3 times and succumbed to the fourth bout. After initially going into remission, Joshua completed 4 - 3k and 5k marathons.
Joshua is preceded in death by his brother and best friend CPL Tron Lewis of the Tybee Island Police Department.
Survivors include his wife, Britonia Lewis of Port Wentworth; his parents, Arlanza and Lena Young Lewis of Waycross; two brothers, Arlanza Lewis II and Mr. Emmanuel Lewis of Waycross; a sister in law Natasha Lewis of Waycross; mother in-law Tammy Bryant and fathers in-law Tracy Bryant and James Bennett of Waycross and other family members.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday November 13,2021 at River of Life Church of God 1439 Brunel Street, Waycross Georgia. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Friday evening at 804 Carswell Ave. Waycross Georgia. Flowers can be sent to 804 Carswell Ave and will transported to River of Life on the morning of the memorial service.
