Norma Jeanne Jenkins Tiedemann

January 11, 1935 — March 12, 2023

Norma Jeanne Jenkins Tiedemann, widow of S. Ernest Tiedemann, passed Sunday, Mar 12, 2023, in Savannah, Georgia. A native Floridian, Norma Jeanne Stephens was born January 11,1935, in Delray Beach, Florida. In 1940, as a first grader, she moved to St. Augustine, Florida with her parents and brother Bob. She graduated Ketterlinus High School in 1954 and received her B.A. in 1956 from Stetson University, DeLand, Florida.

As a high school sophomore, Jeannie discovered her “one God-given talent” - typing (a manual machine in those days). “It just came to me”, she thereafter and always testified, “I really didn’t have to work at it.” Thus, immediately was born her career as a typist; as a typing, business and English teacher; and as authors’ assistant and editor. Always maintaining an office in her home, Jeanne also was employed as a transcriptionist in both the court- reporting and medical fields. In Savannah she was well known as “Jeanne- Jeanne, the Typin’ Machine.”

Never failing to witness to God’s grace through the stewardship of her one talent,” Jeanne also treasured the joys of family, music, service to the elderly and to her church. In past years she
had played the piano for several nursing homes and Hospice Savannah. She had also been a Hospice in-home volunteer. Jeanne became a member of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of
the Ascension in 1978, where she formerly taught Sunday School, served on committees, and sang in the choir and Ladies Ensemble.

Jeanne is predeceased by her husband S. Ernest Tiedemann, Clay Rose, father of her children, and her parents Rayburn and Mina Stephens.

Survivors who will remember Jeanne’s personal impact on their lives in their respective ways are her children and their families: son James Rose (Debbie); daughter Cynthia Ammons: granddaughter Tiffany Ortiz; great granddaughters Bella, Gabby and Serenity; stepson John, Cheryl, Cayce and Conor Tiedemann. Other dear family members are her cousins and their families: Sharlyn, Steve and Austin Radcliffe; Sheryl, Tom, Emily, Neil Brink.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406.

A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Hillcrest Abbey West, 1336 Dean Forest Road, Savannah, Georgia 31405. Burial will be next to her husband.

In her own words Jeanne specifically wrote: “Flowers wither and fade … (or make me sneeze!). To employ a portion of my favorite Bible verse, Philippians 4:8, … if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise … give in memory to: Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension or Hospice Savannah.
