Mrs. Nell Hart Shuman, age 95, passed Monday morning at the Abercorn Rehabilitation Center in Savannah, GA.

Born to William Hart, Sr. and Mary Thelma Lee Hart and raised on the family farm in Bulloch County, GA. She attended Elmer Church and was baptized in the creek behind the church. She graduated from Georgia Teachers College High School in 1937 and moved to Savannah in 1939.

She began working with the Savannah Telephone Company and moved to Atlanta with them but eventually returned to Savannah where she lived and raised her family. She continued to work for the phone company, then Southern Bell, until going to work for Building Specialties and finally The Briar Patch where she continued to work until their last location closed when she was 80 years of age.

She loved working in her yard and caring for her rose garden and her sago palms trees. She often verbally attacked and shook her fist at squirrels who threw down pine cones into the yard.

For the past seven years Nell has lived at the Savannah Commons where she frequently ran the tables on bingo and attended Sunday services in the Chapel. She had only been at Abercorn Rehabilitation for one month at the time of her passing.

She is preceded by her parents, four children: Mary Janice Shuman-Sellar, Roderick Shuman (Rick), Stacey Shuman, and Charles Shuman (Hoss); an infant sister, Thelma Janice Hart; and three brothers, William Hart, Jr., Robert Hart, and Jackie Hart.

Surviving are 2 daughter-in-laws, Nancy Shuman and Chrissy Shuman and a son-in-law, Ron Sellar. 8 grandchildren Ginny Edens, Mandy Brown, Bret Shuman, Cherryl Shuman, Morgan Shuman, Fraser Shuman, Joshua Shuman, and Rhiannon Shuman and three great-grandchildren; Malena, Aiden, and Elijah.

Funeral Services will be held at Baker McCullough Funeral Home - Hubert C. Baker Chapel at 1:00 pm Thursday November 30, 2017. Interment will be at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah, GA.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers please send donations to Nancy N. & J.C. Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion at St. Joseph/Candler in the name of Nell Shuman.
