Mrs. Nancy Gladys Davis McAuley, wife of Arthur Lee McAuley, Sr. passed away on Wednesday afternoon, April 20, 2022, at Bryan County Health & Rehabilitation, in Richmond Hill, GA, after an extended illness.
She was born in Chester, PA, on October 19, 1932, to Mr. Charles Ronald Davis, Sr. & Mrs. Gladys Jones Davis. She was educated in the local schools in Chester and graduated from
Chester High School in 1950, where she excelled in secretarial / business studies. She married Arthur Lee McAuley on May 24, 1952, in Chester, PA, and relocated to Savannah,
GA. She retired from Union Camp Corporation in 1993 after 34 years of service. The majority of her career was spent as the secretary to the Union Camp Savannah Region Woodlands
Manager. She was a Certified Professional Secretary and taught classes to assist others to attain their certification.
She was always involved in the life of the church that her family attended, at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, she served as secretary to the Administrative Board, as a Sunday School teacher, and was active in the United Methodist Women (UMW). At Richmond Hill UMC she worked with the Ways Station Food Pantry, was active in the UMW, and helped with the annual church bar-b-cue.
Also, in Richmond Hill, she was an active member of the Richmond Hill Historical Society, Richmond Hill Garden Club, and volunteered at the Richmond Hill Public Library. As well as
providing unlimited transportation, and baking services, for her beloved grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Gladys Davis, her brother Mr. C. R.
"Scrappy" Davis, Jr., and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Gladys Bonfoey McAuley.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Lee McAuley, Sr., and her sister Linda Davis Benhardt (George) of Sebring, FL, and Warrenton, MO. Additionally, she is survived by her three sons, Arthur Lee McAuley, Jr. (Karen), Steven Charles McAuley, and David Lloyd McAuley. Grandchildren, Kristin Gladys McAuley Achord (Ryan), of Smyrna, GA, SFC Andrew Lee McAuley (Christina), of Phenix City, AL, and Timothy David McAuley, of Savannah, GA. Great granddaughters Brooke Wiley Achord, and Chelsea Adalynn Achord, both of Smyrna, GA. She is also, survived by many dear nieces and nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held Friday, May 6 at 1 PM at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 315 Greenwich Rd, Savannah, GA.
