"Lewis" Hardee

d. November 9, 2017

Garden City, GA.

Bobby "Lewis" Hardee passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017. He was born on February 14, 1933 in Collins, GA to Horace and Hattie Mae Hardee. He graduated from Collins High School in 1953.

After high school, he was drafted by the United States Army and served two years in Japan. He was always very proud of serving his country.

On February 8, 1958, he married Ethelyne Williamson. After their marriage, they moved to Garden City, GA where Lewis worked for the Savannah Railroad. He later went on to work for Union Camp, now International Paper, where he retired after 40 years of service.

He was married for 34 years until the death of his wife in 1992. After Ethelyne's death he became active in the community and his church. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Garden City as well as the Timothy Sunday School class. His community involvement included volunteering at International Paper with the American Red Cross blood drive and being involved in planning luncheons for retirees.  It was at church where he became reacquainted with Lucille Danielson, and they began to date. For the last 24 years they have been members of the Elks Club and Shag Club. Lewis and Lucille loved to travel and took numerous trips including to Hawaii and Alaska.

His happiest day was when his first granddaughter, Virginia was born. He spent countless hours with her as an infant and toddler, loving and spoiling her. Then, seven years later he was just as excited to welcome his second granddaughter, Margaret.

Lewis is survived by his daughter, Nella (John) Maxwell and his 2 granddaughters Virginia and Margaret, his sister Joyce Evans, 2 step grandsons, John (Merian) Maxwell and Robert Maxwell, and 3 step great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his best friend and the joy and light of his life, Lucille Danielson, along with her children Sue (Tony) Moore,  Joy (Todd) Vinke, and granddaughter Sherri (Ken) Long.  Other survivors include a special aunt, Reba Dickey, several nieces and nephews and Lucille's extended family.

The family would like to thank Savannah Hospice for their support and guidance during these last 9 months. The family is also grateful for his caregivers, Ann, Elizabeth, Elly and Sue.
