Moscelyne Maggioni age 87, Died, Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Hospice House Savannah.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, with Msgr. P. James Costigan, officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwich Section of Bonaventure cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.
She was born in Los Angles CA, on November 17, 1922. When she was 6 years old, she and her family relocated to Zornasco and Domodossola Italy, both towns in the Italian Alps. Thereafter, she left to attend boarding school at the Eugene Napoleon convent in Paris, France, where she remained until she and her family settled in Savannah, Ga.
As a young woman, she was known for her operatic singing voice. Later, she became one of the first certified Montessori instructors in the area. Also, she was the first employee of Brighter Day Health Food store. She was very active in the Catholic Church as a parishioner of both St. Peters and The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, an was member of the Lay Carmelites. She was fluent in Italian and French and was a lover of classical music, opera and the arts and was a voracious reader. But mostly, she was known for her lively personality, her generosity, her knowledge of health and healing, and her elegant sense of style.
She was preceded in death by her husband L. P. Maggioni, Sr.; Son, L. P. Maggioni, Jr.
Survivors include her children, Angela M. Beasley (Roddy) , Ralph Maggioni (Kathy), Philip Maggioni, Joseph Maggioni (Ellen), Vincent Maggioni (Patricia) all of Savannah and 9 Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren a niece and a brother-in-law.
The family will be receiving friends Monday, October 12, 2009, from 6:00pm until 7:00pm with the Vigil service held at 7:00 PM in the chapel of Bonaventure Funeral Home.
