Monroe Brunson Schuman, 89, of Ellabell, GA, passed away on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024 at Hospice Savannah. He was born in Savannah, GA on Friday, January 4th, 1935.
Brunson is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Madge Hinely Schuman, his son Drew Schuman (Suzanne), daughter Deanne Volkert (Phil), grandchildren Ashton Hogan (Gary), Austin Volkert, Haley Wiley (Chipper), and great grandchildren Aiden Volkert, Blake Work, and Camden Hogan. He is also survived by his brother Hal Schuman (Tina), sister Margaret Smith, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Monroe H. Schuman, and mother Louree Brunson Schuman.
Brunson graduated from Savannah High School in the Class of 1953 and went on to attend South Georgia College, where he played Full Back on the football team. He served in the Navy Reserve for 8 years from 1953-1961.
Brunson worked as a Credit Supervisor for General Motors Acceptance Corporation for 31 years before retiring. He was an member of South Newington Baptist Church, the Ogeechee River Keepers Association and enjoyed spending time on the Ogeechee River, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting and restoring older guns. He especially loved traveling to the North Georgia Mountains with his family. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend to all.
A funeral service will be held at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel in Garden City on Monday, May 6th, 2024 at 2:00 pm, with visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital or the American Heart Association.
