Molly Ione Ryon died February 6, 2022 at the home of her daughter from Parkinson's Disease.
She was born July 22, 1931 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Braymer Hutchinson and Bess Lenore Watts Hutchinson. She graduated from Flint Northern High School and attended Flint Comptometer School, graduating as a Certified Comptometer Operator. She married James Wallace Ryon on March 13, 1954. They had three daughters, Deborah, Kathleen and Nancy. She worked in the Flint Chevrolet Manufacturing Division of General Motors Corporation as a General Stores Clerk from 1951 until 1957, when her first daughter was born. In 1968 and 1969, she worked at the Civic Park Branch of the Flint Public Library. After moving to Davison, Michigan in 1970, Molly went to work for the Davison Community Schools as a Lunch Supervisor. In 1986, she was promoted to the paraprofessional position of Library Aide, responsible for providing Library activities for elementary school children.
Molly was actively involved in church and school music activities. She was a member of the Industrial Business Girls Ladies Chorus, and sang in church choirs (beginning in Children's Choir) from 1940 until 1998. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, and volunteer cook and chaperone on road trips with the Flint Guardsmen and Saginaires Junior Drum and Bugle Corps. She worked as an election poll worker, beginning in 1972 in Davison, and continuing in Beverly Hills, Florida after moving there in 1987. In 1994, she was appointed Precinct Clerk, and continued in that position until moving to Savannah in 2001.
She was a Lifetime Member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She joined Pilgrim Chapter in Flint, Michigan in 1950, continued in Davison (Michigan) Chapter in 1970, Inverness (Florida) Chapter in 1988, and Laurel Chapter in Savannah in 2001. She received her Lifetime Membership Award in 1997.
She enjoyed traveling with her family, and took one or more long road trips every year. She played tennis and was an avid reader. She has been a member of White Bluff United Methodist Church since moving to Savannah in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years James Ryon, and sister Joanne Henderson. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Deborah and Mickey Jones, Kathleen and Daniel Knopoff, Nancy Canales; five granddaughters: Melissa Farrell, Michelle Etheridge, Jackie Duncan, Leslie Knopoff, and Sabrina Gager; eight great grandchildren: Nachelle Etheridge, Nasean Etheridge, Molly Farrell, Marc Wells, Kyle Duncan, Ian Duncan, Collin Duncan, Aubri Wells, JoJo Canales and Aaron Wells; brother-in-law Larry Ryon; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held in Flint, Michigan.
